Stamp Duty – What is it?

Overview

Stamp duty is a tax applied to all real estate purchases. Payment rates and dates vary between states; In New South Wales, stamp duty is due within three months of settlement.

It is one of three costs involved in real estate transactions:-

  1. Home deposit;
  2. Mortgage payments; and
  3. Stamp duty.
